Project Goals:
- Help project staff find and diagnose the hidden cases of leprosy in Oecusse, Timor-Leste
- Stop the rise in visible deformities or damage due to late detection
- Cut the number of children detected among new cases to zero
- Conduct mass health screenings to bring hidden cases of leprosy into the light
- Target every village of over 100 people
- Send doctors to conduct home visits in all villages to ensure no cases of leprosy are missed
- Setting up labs and health clinics to build up the local health system and ensure the right diagnose and treatment equipment are available
- Treat identified cases with Multi Drug Therapy
- Hold community sessions to teach people that leprosy is a treatable and curable disease turning stigma and shame into love and acceptance
- Teach leprosy-affected people self-care to prevent permanent disabilities and how to stand up for their rights and health needs

As a separate region of Timor-Leste, Oecusse is remote and isolated. You will help us venture into the unknown to find the most hidden cases of leprosy.
The Oecusse people live in rural villages, surrounded by wild and untamed terrain. They have poorer health services than the rest of the country. So many leprosy cases remain utterly hidden.
Without your kind support, these people with leprosy will remain undetected.
Children like Nila risk being diagnosed late... if at all. The result is permanent disabilities... but that can be avoided!

These projects are supported by the Australian Government through the Australian NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP). Thanks to you and the ANCP, the projects are able to improve the well-being of people affected by leprosy, other Neglected Tropical Diseases, and Disability. The Leprosy Mission Australia has committed to raise $1 for each $5 of the Grant. This means the impact of your donations are MULTIPLIED 5 TIMES until the grant becomes fully subscribed.
