E-LETRA

E-LETRA works across 18 villages that make up the 4 sub regions of the Special Administrative Region of Oecusse-Ambeno with the goal of reducing the rates of leprosy to <0.5/10,000 population.  This rate will eliminate leprosy as a public health concern in the region if achieved.

The project partners with the government health services to improve the integration of the leprosy control program into existing health services.

To achieve universal leprosy awareness and improve health across the region, the project targets several groups with leprosy knowledge and health seeking behaviours.

10 selected doctors will travel to Anandaban Hospital in Nepal, a leprosy specialist hospital, to partake in an intensive leprosy training program with the aim of increasing specialist leprosy knowledge and management in Oecusse upon their return.

The project team has developed a leprosy training module that will be rolled out to the remaining health workers in the region to increase their skills in leprosy diagnosis, treatment and management.

These health workers will then accompany project staff to each village and sub village to conduct leprosy awareness orientation to key community members.

The project will also partner with trained community members to conduct active case finding and mass screening activities in their villages to find hidden cases.

By the end of the project, all villages in Oecusse will have received leprosy awareness training and reached with mass screening and contact tracing activities.
