CID (Cocreating Inclusive Development)

Located in Tamil Nadu, the Cocreating Inclusive Development project will work towards building more disability inclusive communities through the implementation of various innovative models.

The mobile van, first outfitted under the previous project (Inclusive Empowerment) will continue to provide rehabilitation services, including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, telehealth medical appointments and prosthetics measuring for artificial limbs. This van travels to remote, hard to reach villages to provide rehabilitation and basic health services to communities who have limited access to healthcare.

Using a co-design model where the project team works alongside a community, the project will also support villages to learn and develop disability inclusive practices that support persons with disabilities, promote mental health awareness and improve health seeking behaviours.  These villages will be called role model villages and once established, will be an example for other villages.

To complete the project’s comprehensive rehabilitation services, an existing artificial limbs construction workshop will be redesigned and refurbished to become a ‘technological hub’ catering to research design and production of orthotics, prosthetics and assistive devices.  This unit will fabricate artificial limbs and other assistive devices.  It will also be used to experiment on new designs, particularly in the use of 3D printing.  A Pioneers of Possibilities Centre will be established that acts as a museum, displaying various models of assistive devices that external medical professionals, patients and government workers can come to view, to understand the range of available customised options that are possible.  This helps visitors design or prescribe more tailored devices for their patients.
